PSG Receives Positive Squad Update Ahead of Deadline

Back from yet another chaotic loan, Renato Sanches is heading toward a free departure from PSG this summer, as anticipated, and could bounce back in Ligue 1.

Recruited by Luis Campos and Christophe Galtier in the summer of 2022, Renato Sanches never established himself at PSG and was quickly derailed by physical setbacks that have ruined his career. Back this summer from another disappointing, injury-plagued loan at Panathinaikos, the 29-year-old Portuguese midfielder still has one year left on his contract in Paris, but no prospect of playing again for the first team.

The 2016 European champion was therefore sent to train with the youth group this summer, like Yoram Zague, and while the right-back is going to bounce back at Pafos, Renato Sanches is indeed heading toward a free departure from PSG and thus a contract termination, according to the latest information from Foot Mercato. A possibility we already suggested last weekend.

According to Foot Mercato, things are indeed heading toward this fairly logical scenario, and Renato Sanches could bounce back in Ligue 1, where two clubs whose identities have not been revealed have reportedly made serious inquiries. The online outlet notes that the former Benfica player is prioritising a new adventure in Europe and that he has already turned down offers from Saudi Arabia, Brazil and MLS.

Several European clubs (La Liga clubs, Ipswich and Hull City in England, Torino in Italy, and Union Berlin in Germany) have also expressed interest, according to the cited outlet, and the situation should become clearer in the coming days. Renato Sanches would like to commit to a new three-year project with a new coach who believes in him.

If he were to be released as planned from his final year of contract in Paris, Renato Sanches would not necessarily need to choose his new club by Sept. 1 and the end of the transfer window, but the idea is also not to join a club too late, with the 2026/2027 season having already started a few days ago.

Meanwhile, Ferran Torres is leading the Ligue 1 scoring chart, while Fabian Ruiz tops assists after PSG's draw against LOSC Lille.

PSG was held to a draw by Rennes on Sunday night at Roazhon Park (2-2) but earned credit for coming back from a poor start, thanks to a brace from its new signing, Ferran Torres, with both goals set up by his compatriot, Fabian Ruiz.
