PSG have given Ousmane Demebele a game off, but it’s purely to get him fresh rather than because of an injury.

PSG have announced that Ousmane Dembele won’t be in the squad to face Lille on Friday night.
In fact, the forward has not been training this week. He’s been given a break by manager Luis Enrique, who subbed the forward off for Ferran Torres at half time in the draw against Rennes on Sunday.

As you’d expect, there were fears when this was announced that this was some sort of punishment, or evidence of a rift between the fiery coach and his star player. It’s been made very clear by club sources that that’s not the case.
The coach simply noted that Dembele, who cut his post-World Cup holiday short to be available for the UEFA Super Cup, wasn’t looking 100% physically, and thought it would be best for him to have a few days of total rest. He will be back in training next Monday and can play normally after that.
Given PSG’s strength in depth, it’s a sensible move from a coach who has proved very wise in making sure his teams always peak at the right moment in the season.
