The Baltimore Ravens have been engaged in discussions to secure a contract extension for their star quarterback, Lamar Jackson, since January. Jackson, who notably represents himself in negotiations, has made his intentions clear: he is seeking a new deal that reflects his status as one of the league's top players.

On Wednesday, Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta conveyed a sense of optimism regarding the potential for a contract agreement with Jackson prior to the March deadline. "I'm optimistic. I feel good about it," DeCosta stated, as reported by ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

While DeCosta expressed confidence in reaching an agreement, he refrained from providing specific details about the negotiations. He acknowledged the unique nature of the talks, given that Jackson does not have a traditional agent representing him. "I really don't like to get into details," DeCosta remarked. "I'm not going to talk about it specifically. I think Lamar and I have a pact. As you all know — I've said it probably 50 times — we're not going to talk about business publicly. It's a different type of negotiation, because it's a different type of negotiation with Lamar."

Currently, Jackson is under a five-year contract worth $260 million, which has two years remaining. His cap hit for the year 2027 is projected to be $84.340 million. When he signed his contract in 2023, he became the highest-paid player in the NFL, with an annual average salary of $52 million. However, as of now, that figure ranks him 11th among quarterbacks in the league.

The Ravens are keen to solidify their relationship with Jackson, who has already achieved significant accolades, including winning the NFL MVP award twice. Securing his services with a new contract would not only reaffirm the franchise's commitment to him but also help in maintaining stability as they prepare for the upcoming seasons.

As the March deadline approaches, both parties are expected to continue discussions, with fans and analysts alike watching closely to see how this situation unfolds. The outcome of these negotiations will have a substantial impact on the Ravens' future, as Jackson is a pivotal figure in their offensive strategy and overall team success.
