Rays Can't Find Momentum as Ian Seymour Struggles Against Tigers

The Tampa Bay Rays can't come away with the win as they fall in the middle game of the series to the Detroit Tigers 4-1 on the road at Comerica Park. 

It was a slow night at the plate and a shaky performance on the mound for Tampa Bay. 

Here's what you need to know from the contest. 

Kevin Cash decided to start Casey Legumina in the game Tuesday, and he started strong. He went 2.1 innings, allowed only one hit, and went scoreless before handing the keys to Ian Seymour. 

Unfortunately for Seymour, things did not go as well. He finished the rest of the game going 5.2 innings but picked up his fifth loss of the season after allowing three earned runs on seven hits, including a home run by Tigers' Max Clark. 

This is now the Third straight game for Seymour in which he has allowed at least three earned runs in an outing. 

It was a very sluggish night for Tampa Bay at the plate, as the team only picked up five hits and struck out seven times against the Detroit Tigers. 

Jonny Deluca picked up the only RBI of the game in the top of the fourth inning when he hit an infield single, allowing Junior Caminero to score from third. 

Unfortunately, the streak came to an end for Chandler Simpson, as he went hitless in the contest. Entering Tuesday night, Simpson was on a 15-game hitting streak, easily the biggest of his career. He is still having a fantastic year, as he's hitting a .308 batting average on the season. 

Looking across the rest of the American League East, the New York Yankees fell on Tuesday night to the Houston Astros, 9-7, and still remain 3.5 games behind Tampa Bay for the division lead. However, the Boston Red Sox are starting to heat up again, picked up their fifth straight win, and now trail the Rays by only 5 games. 

These two teams are not ones you want to keep lingering around, and while Tampa Bay has a chance, they have to take advantage of getting ahead. Losing games like this, of course, happens across 162 in the season; however, it doesn't make it any less frustrating. 

Tampa Bay will look to win the series on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers. As Freddy Peralta will continue to look to improve since heading over to the Rays at the MLB trade deadline, he'll look for his sixth win of the season, and he'll take on right-hander Troy Melton for the Tigers. Melton has had a hot start, although the Tigers have struggled. He's currently 7-2 with a 1.60 ERA on the season. First pitch is scheduled as a getaway day for the Rays and will begin at 1:10 pm Eastern.
