Seattle Seahawks running back Jacardia Wright joined the team last offseason as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri State, and hung around on the practice squad all season while they climbed the mountain and won Super Bowl LX. He got on the field for just five snaps in one regular season game. Tonight, he has a shot to make his 2026 season completely different. He is in the driver’s seat to win the last running back job on the 53-man active roster for Week 1 of the regular season.
Last week, he showed off his explosive, home run-hitting style on a 69-yard touchdown run right up the gut of the Tennessee Titans defense. Doing that again certainly wouldn’t hurt, but they know he can do that now. Showing the other dimensions of his game, like pass blocking, pass catching, and short yardage ability would be just as positive for his chances of surviving final roster cuts. If he can be Jalen Milroe’s best friend and find ways to bail him out, he can put up the exact type film the coaches want to see versus the Kansas City Chiefs’ backups tonight.
Right now, Wright is competing with veteran Velus Jones Jr. for the third roster spot behind George Holani and Jadarian Price. Jones got more of the third-string RB touches last season after coming in from the Bears, but Wright’s tape and workload through two preseason games is clearly the more impressive of the two, and he’s the ascending, younger talent. Jones has premium speed, too, but if he doesn’t access it on the field tonight, Wright might just have to look competent to ride his resume onto the regular season roster.
