SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy (TLCA) Eagles have finally broken their long-standing losing streak, achieving their first victory since October 2023. This win comes after a challenging period where the Eagles endured a 23-game skid, the longest active losing streak in the Concho Valley region.
Before their recent triumph, the Eagles had not tasted victory since a 36-21 win against Ballinger on October 26, 2023. The years 2024 and 2025 proved to be particularly difficult, as the team failed to secure a single win, extending their losing streak into the 2026 season. However, this all changed on Friday, September 4, when they hosted Abilene TLCA in a highly anticipated matchup dubbed the 'Eagle Bowl.'
In the game, San Angelo TLCA quickly established dominance, racing to a 16-0 lead after scoring two touchdowns and successfully converting both two-point attempts. Although Abilene TLCA managed to narrow the gap to 16-12 in the second quarter, the Eagles responded with an impressive display of offensive power, scoring 22 unanswered points before halftime. By the break, San Angelo TLCA had built a commanding 38-12 lead.
The second half saw no let-up in momentum for San Angelo, culminating in a resounding 67-20 victory. This win marks a significant turnaround for the Eagles, who have already scored more points this season (92) than they did in the entirety of the previous two seasons combined (74 in 2025 and 26 in 2024). The team's first-year head coach, Robert Ontiveroz, has clearly made an impact, revitalizing the squad and instilling a sense of confidence that had been missing in recent years.
