Scores and Highlights from Wednesday's High School Sports in Rhode Island

Wednesday marked an action-packed day in Rhode Island high school sports, with teams competing across various disciplines including boys and girls soccer, field hockey, girls tennis, and volleyball. Coaches are reminded to submit game results each weeknight from 6-10 p.m. to ensure accurate reporting.

Boys Soccer kicked off the day with several thrilling matches. In a closely contested Division I opener, Moses Brown defeated East Greenwich 1-0. Alexander Holland netted the only goal of the match with an unassisted strike 27 minutes into the first half. Moses Brown's goalkeeper, Haven Knapp, showcased his skills with four saves, while East Greenwich's Brady Parks made three saves in a valiant effort.

Another nail-biter occurred between Lincoln and Central Falls, where the Lions triumphed 2-1. Morgan Williams was the hero for Lincoln, scoring the decisive goal with just seven seconds left in the match, assisted by Mason Simpson. Earlier in the game, Williams had also assisted Jaxon Harris for Lincoln's first goal, while Valter Teixeira scored for Central Falls with help from captain Kevin Ramos.

Other notable boys soccer results included Davies defeating Prout 5-0, West Warwick and Cranston East finishing in a 1-1 draw, Mt. Hope edging Pilgrim 2-1, and South Kingstown narrowly beating Barrington 2-1.

Girls Soccer saw Ponaganset dominate EWG with a resounding 7-1 victory. Marron Nerney and Sam Chatwin each scored twice, while Aili Bougery, Sienna Walusiak, and Alivia Maynard added to the scoreline. Silia Marantidis scored the lone goal for EWG. Pilgrim also had a strong showing, defeating Lincoln School 6-0, with Emma Rattigan leading the charge with two goals. Mackenzie Dailey contributed with a goal and two assists, while Audra Lynch, Allie Patten, and Bella Pfeiler each scored once.

In other girls soccer action, Bay View triumphed over Davies 4-1, North Providence and Narragansett played to a 2-2 draw, and Burrillville overwhelmed Tiverton with a score of 9-2.

Moving to Field Hockey, Cumberland secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Lincoln. Payton Jolicoeur scored the game-winner in the third quarter, following Tessa Nicastro's opening goal in the second quarter. Arianna Casey equalized for Lincoln before Jolicoeur's pivotal strike. In goal, Lucy Camara made an impressive 16 saves for Lincoln, while Emma Maccio recorded 13 saves for Cumberland. South Kingstown also emerged victorious, defeating Lincoln 2-1.

Girls Tennis featured Ponaganset defeating Tiverton 5-2, with Julianna Steer winning her singles match after a comeback from a first-set loss. Rogers also had a strong performance, beating Mt. Hope 6-1, with Isla O'Donohoe leading the singles victories.

Finally, in Girls Volleyball, West Warwick edged Cranston East in a thrilling five-set match, winning 3-2. McKenzie Roll led the Wizards with 11 kills, while Burrillville swept Central Falls 3-0, thanks to standout performances from Sophie Mekdsy and Amiyah Perry. North Smithfield also secured a 3-0 victory over Pilgrim.

As the high school sports season progresses, teams continue to showcase their skills and determination on the field and court, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
