For whatever reason, some people are simply incapable of admitting they were wrong about Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold. I get it, first impressions are hard to overcome. He flamed out with the New York Jets, and wasn't all that special with the Carolina Panthers, either. When he resurrected his career in Minnesota with 4,319 passing yards and 35 passing touchdowns as he helped lead the Vikings to a 14-3 record, everyone said he would fall back to Earth in Seattle.
Well, all he did with the Seahawks was have another 4,000+ yard season, 25 more passing touchdowns, and joined Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to have consecutive 14-win regular seasons. Oh... and he won the Super Bowl! You'd think that would be the end of it, but apparently not for FOX Sports co-host Jason McIntyre.
Jason McIntyre, filling in for Colin Cowherd on Thursday's edition of "The Herd," once again made another outrageous remark about Sam Darnold. McIntyre previously criticized Darnold's play back in late July during a segment where he and NFL "analyst" Warren Sharp called the Seahawks a "fringe playoff team." Despite the widespread public rebuke of these laughably bad opinions, McIntyre is doubling down on this take, and directly compared Sam Darnold to Trent Dilfer.
Yes, that Trent Dilfer. The Trent Dilfer who is widely considered among the worst quarterbacks to ever win a Super Bowl, if not THE worst one.
McIntyre outright called Darnold a "game manager." If that's how you see Darnold, fine I guess... it's more wrong than right, but I do see the argument that Darnold simply had to not squander elite play from his defense and special teams in order to win. However, comparing him to TRENT DILFER is simply ridiculous, and the numbers speak for themselves. The 2000 Baltimore Ravens won their Super Bowl in spite of their quarterback, while Sam Darnold was an active driving force for the Seahawks on their successful quest for another Lombardi.

McIntyre brought up that Darnold only had two game-winning drives last season, including the Thursday Night Football showdown against the Rams... which he called "fluky." My goodness, how is it we're still pushing that preposterous narrative!? Speaking of the Rams, in Seattle's two wins over them, the Seahawks' elite defense surrendered 64 points, 1,060 yards of offense, and only sacked Rams quarterback Matt Stafford one time. Sam Darnold was quite literally the difference maker in both games, including the NFC Championship where he passed for 346 yards and three touchdowns.
The Seahawks are the most overlooked and outright disrespected Super Bowl champs I can ever remember. They're barely a Top 10 team according to the Madden franchise and more "analysts" are saying they'd rather have Kyler Murray over Sam Darnold. It's actually getting hilarious at this point.
All I know is I'm sure the Seahawks players are taking note and will be using it as fuel in their title defense season. They're a defending champion who can actually use the "no one believes in us!" line to self-motivate.
