SEC Football Projections for 2026: Win Totals and Championship Odds

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has long been recognized as a dominant force in college football, consistently showcasing elite teams and talent. However, the conference has experienced a notable gap in national championships, with no team claiming the title in the past three seasons. This period of relative drought raises questions about the league's current standing and competitiveness as it heads into the 2026 season.

Despite the championship lull, the SEC remains a formidable presence in college football, as evidenced by the nine member schools that made it into the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll. The conference's rigorous schedule, which now includes nine intraconference games, ensures that teams face intense competition week in and week out, rivaling the challenges presented by the Big Ten.

As the 2026 campaign approaches, The Athletic's Dan Santaromita and Austin Mock have utilized a simulation model to project win totals and championship chances for SEC teams. Their findings indicate that the Georgia Bulldogs are poised to lead the conference, with an expected win total of 9.6. Furthermore, Georgia's chances of securing a spot in the College Football Playoff (CFP) stand at an impressive 65.1%, while their odds of winning the SEC Championship are calculated at 28.3%.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Florida Gators find themselves in a challenging position. Projected to achieve only 6.5 wins, Florida's chances of making their first CFP appearance are estimated at 11%, with a mere 2.2% likelihood of clinching the SEC title. This places the Gators at 11th in the conference rankings, just above the South Carolina Gamecocks and Missouri Tigers.

The projections from Mock's model reveal a clear hierarchy within the SEC as teams prepare for the upcoming season. Below are the expected win totals and championship odds for key teams in the conference:
