The second week of the South Dakota high school football season offers teams a chance to build on their performances from Week 1 or to regroup after tough starts. With a full slate of games scheduled, excitement is in the air as players and fans gear up for another round of competition.

On Thursday, September 3, seven games are set to take place, while additional matchups will occur on Saturday, September 5. However, the majority of teams will hit the field on Friday, September 4, showcasing a variety of contests across different classifications.

In Class 11AAA, the spotlight will be on the matchup between Rapid City Stevens and the top-ranked Sioux Falls Jefferson, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday. Another highly anticipated game features No. 2 O'Gorman facing off against No. 3 Brandon Valley at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Other notable games include No. 4 Sioux Falls Lincoln taking on Sioux Falls Roosevelt at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, and Rapid City Central squaring off against Sturgis at 7 p.m. MT on Friday.

Moving to Class 11AA, the top-ranked Pierre will challenge No. 3 Yankton at 8 p.m. on Friday, while No. 2 Tea Area travels to face Aberdeen Central at 7 p.m. Additionally, No. 4 Huron will meet Douglas at 6 p.m. MT, and No. 5 Watertown will take on Brookings at 7 p.m. on Friday. The week also includes a game between Mitchell and Spearfish, both scheduled for 7 p.m. MT on Friday.

In Class 11A, the action continues with Custer visiting No. 1 Sioux Falls Christian at 6 p.m. on Friday. Other games in this class include No. 2 Dell Rapids at Belle Fourche, No. 3 Lennox at Vermillion, and No. 4 West Central at Milbank, all kicking off at 7 p.m. on Friday. No. 5 Madison will also be on the road against Tri-Valley at the same time, while Canton faces Dakota Valley at 8 p.m.

Class 11B features a strong lineup, including No. 1 St. Thomas More visiting Hot Springs at 6 p.m. MT. The No. 2 Deuel will host Sioux Valley at 7 p.m., while No. 3 Elk Point-Jefferson takes on Parker/Marion at the same time. Other matchups include Mount Vernon/Plankinton at No. 4 Winner and Aberdeen Roncalli at No. 5 Clark/Willow Lake, both scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday.

In the lower classifications, Class 9AA sees No. 1 Parkston hosting Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan at 7 p.m. on Friday, while No. 2 Bon Homme will welcome Scotland/Menno at the same time. Class 9A features No. 1 Castlewood against Estelline/Hendricks, also at 7 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Class 9B includes a notable matchup between No. 4 Avon and No. 1 St. Mary's, set for 7 p.m. on Friday.

As the weekend approaches, teams across South Dakota are eager to showcase their skills and improve their standings in the ongoing SDHSAA football season. With numerous games scheduled, fans can expect thrilling action as the competition heats up.
