This win marked an impressive improvement for the Cavaliers, who now hold an overall record of 11-1 and remain undefeated in Carolina Pines 6A competition with a 3-0 record. The Cavaliers are set to continue their strong performance as they prepare to face Union Pines on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Lee County volleyball team also celebrated a four-set win, overcoming Western Harnett at home. The Yellow Jackets secured their victory with scores of 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, and 27-25. Leading the charge for Lee County was Velzy Smith, who delivered an outstanding performance with 20 kills, 16 digs, and two assists. Makayla McDougold matched her teammate's energy, contributing another 20 kills along with 16 digs and three assists. With this win, the Yellow Jackets improved to an overall record of 8-1 and a conference record of 2-1. They will look to build on this momentum when they travel to Harnett Central for a match on September 8 at 6 p.m.
In other volleyball action, Central Carolina Academy achieved a four-set road victory against The Hawbridge School. The Eagles won decisively with scores of 25-9, 20-25, 25-9, and 25-14, bringing their overall record to 2-3 and their Central Tar Heel 1A record to 1-3. The Eagles will be looking to continue their upward trajectory as they head into their next match against Jordan-Matthews at 6 p.m.
On the soccer field, the Lee County boys' team faced a tough challenge, falling 6-2 to Cape Fear in a nonconference matchup. This defeat brings the Yellow Jackets' record to 1-5-2 as they prepare to open their Carolina Pines 6A Conference play against Triton on September 9 at 6:30 p.m. Grace Christian also struggled, losing 4-1 to Wake Christian Academy, leaving them with a record of 0-5 as they look to bounce back in their upcoming match against Concord Academy.
In girls' golf, Central Carolina Academy showcased their talent by finishing first in a match held at Quail Ridge Golf Course, achieving a team score of 130. Adeline Hinsley earned medalist honors with a score of 38, while Raelan Fields followed closely with a 42. Other notable performances included Hannah Despain, who placed seventh with a score of 50, and Peyton Cameron, who finished 11th with a 61. The Eagles will return to the course on September 8 for a match at The Challenge Golf Club.
Grace Christian also competed in the golf match, securing second place with a team score of 143. Jenah Andrew led the Crusaders with a third-place finish, scoring 44, while Rachael Mattingly and Jade Andrew secured sixth and seventh place, respectively. The Crusaders will host Rolesville and Wesleyan Christian Academy at Quail Ridge Golf Course on September 8 at 3 p.m.
