PITTSBURGH, Pa. (BLACK AND GOLD NATION) - The Pittsburgh Steelers are creating a ton of salary cap space ahead of the regular season. On Thursday, the Steelers restructured wide receiver DK Metcalf's contract.
Max Iheanachor returns to practice from injuryThe Steelers are turning Metcalf's base contract into a signing bonus, which gives the team nearly an extra $18 million in salary cap space for this season. Before this move, the Steelers had approximately $4 million in space, according to Spotrac.
Metcalf, who is entering his second season in Pittsburgh, is owed the second-most money on the team for this year. Last year, Metcalf led the Steelers in receiving yards and touchdowns.

Over the past few months, Devon Witherspoon, Denzel Ward and Trent McDuffie all inked deals worth more than $30 million annually.
