Subs and position shifts: How Alonso reacted to Chelsea’s second half collapse

Chelsea were under pressure against Brighton after conceding two second half goals, and Xabi Alonso’s reaction told us everything.

Everything was under control as Chelsea led Brighton 3-0 going into the second half, but we then saw the most recent example of how easily the Blues crumble.

While it was a painful period to watch from a Chelsea point of view, it has at least given us our first insight into what Alonso is going to do under pressure.

The Blues had never had much midfield control, and it was time to change that, Reece James and Moises Caicedo joined the action from the bench, replacing midfield pair Malo Gusto and Romeo Lavia.

In defence, Wesley Fofana dropped out with Josh Acheampong replacing him on the right hand side of the back three.

After that Jorrel Hato also went into the back three with Levi Colwill going off and Pep Chavarria coming on. That injection of fresh energy paid off right away.

Chelsea started the game really strongly with two early goals that set them on their way.
