Syracuse started 3-1 last season thanks to a huge start from Notre Dame transfer Steve Angeli. He suffered a horrific season-ending injury, and the Orange lost their last eight games with an offense that didn’t go anywhere.
Angeli is back, and now the Syracuse offense has to get going with the ACC season starting in Week 2.
- New Hampshire lost the season opener against UAlbany 28-14. This is the only game against an FBS team.
- Syracuse hasn’t lost to a team outside of the FBS/D-I since 1952.
- The Orange host Cal in the ACC opener next, and then go on the road for four of the next five games.

– CFN Week 1 Schedule, Predictions
Syracuse had more problems than just losing Steve Angeli.
The offensive line might have experience, but it has to be far, far better in all phases, the defense was lousy from the start, and it all has to find something that works right away. Syracuse went to the transfer portal for the defensive front, but how quickly will this bunch start working?
New Hampshire was great against the UAlbany passing game in the first week, and quarterback Brooks Bentley wasn’t bad. However …
New Hampshire didn’t have a prayer against the UAlbany running game, and Syracuse is about to give it a go.
The Orange want to be more balanced, but again, the offensive line has to be better. This is when the front five will give it a shot, pounding away for Ahmad Miller (Jackson State) and JuJuan Johnson (LSU). UAlbany ran for 374 yards, and the Orange should be able to get there, but they’re going to want their main man to get rolling.
Steve Angeli will get back on track right away. He and the offense will let the ground game handle most of the work, but he’ll get the midrange passing attack rolling right away as the Orange play like they’re in a midseason groove.
Syracuse 42, New Hampshire 13
