The Miami Dolphins wanted a productive practice as they moved closer to the regular season, but Tuesday brought a vastly different result. Their offense struggled mightily, birthing a litany of questions about the unit’s readiness.
The performance also gave Philadelphia Eagles fans another reason to revisit their frustration with former passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo. His coaching in Miami is already facing criticism before the games start counting.
Eagles Fans Rip Kevin Patullo After Dolphins’ Rough Practice SessionMiami’s offense could not find much success during Tuesday’s 11-on-11 work. Malik Willis threw interceptions to Willie Gay Jr. and Jackson Woodard, while Quinn Ewers also gave the defense a turnover. Max Llewellyn repeatedly pressured the quarterbacks, creating several plays that would have resulted in sacks during a live game.
Willis eventually brought the offense together for a mid-practice huddle as the unit tried to reset. However, there was no improvement, and it further puts pressure on the Dolphins, who ranked 25th in 2025’s PFN NFL Offense Impact%20assigns,red%20zone%20and%20third%20downs.).
That effort did not stop the reaction online, with Eagles fans trolling Patullo, bidding good riddance to the man who was their offensive coordinator last season.
NFL analyst Brian Drake was among the first to take a harsh view of Miami’s situation. He wrote on X, “This tank job is going to be one for the ages in Miami.”
The Dolphins have placed significant responsibility on Willis after giving him a three-year, $67.5 million contract, with $45 million fully guaranteed. With Miami rebuilding parts of its roster, the quarterback will have to develop while working in a new system.

Philly Nation focused on that combination of personnel and coaching, writing, “They signed Malik Willis and hired Kevin Patullo to run the pass game with Jalen Tolbert and Malik Washington as the WR1 & 2. This tank job is going to be so [expletive] hilarious.”
Another analyst, Nico, took a different approach and questioned whether Miami should keep its starters on the field until they finally produce a touchdown. He wrote, “The starting O shouldn’t be allowed to hit the sideline on Friday night until they score a TD.”
Friday’s preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons could provide the offense with a chance to respond. Atlanta plans to play its starters, giving Miami a difficult test before the regular season begins.

Still, the Eagles-related criticism centered on Patullo’s previous opportunity in Philadelphia.
One analyst questioned how he could make Miami’s offense work after working with a much stronger group in Philadelphia, writing, “If Kevin Patullo couldn’t put it together with Saquon, AJ, Smitty, Goedert & Jalen then what made them think he could figure it out with that roster.”
Another fan responded with pure sarcasm, writing, “A Kevin Patullo coordinated offense being a disaster? You don’t say.”
One person launched sarcasm at Patullo’s current responsibilities, writing, “I’m sure the passing game coordinator over there should be able to help Malik get the offense back on track before the season.”
Miami’s defense at least provided some positives during the session. Woodard and Keith Cooper Jr. stood out, while Gay and Cam Riley each recorded interceptions. However, injuries have also created problems, with Trey Moore headed for surgery and Kenneth Grant ruled out against Atlanta.
Still, if the team continues with the same effort, they are more likely to climb the PFN NFL Defense Impact%20assigns,red%20zone%20and%20third%20downs.) chart from last season’s 27th rank.
The Dolphins now have one more preseason game to address their offensive issues.
