The Connecticut Scholastic & Collegiate Softball Hall of Fame is set to celebrate its 35th induction dinner on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Aqua Turf Club located in Plantsville. This prestigious event honors individuals who have significantly contributed to the development and promotion of women's fast-pitch softball in Connecticut.
This year's class of inductees features five notable figures, including former Masuk pitcher Tatum Buckley, who is recognized for her outstanding high school career. Buckley was a three-time NH Register/GametimeCT First Team All-State selection and earned the title of Gatorade Connecticut Player of the Year twice during her time at Masuk. Her remarkable achievements on the field have left a lasting impact on the sport in the state.
Another inductee is Sara Plourde Zirkle, who made her mark as a collegiate player at UMass Amherst and also played for Bristol Eastern. Her contributions to the game at both the high school and collegiate levels have been instrumental in promoting women's softball.
Ken Pereiras, a former coach at Seymour High School, is also among the inductees. Pereiras boasts an impressive coaching record of 427 wins and just 63 losses, along with seven CIAC championships to his name. His successful tenure at Seymour, which culminated in his retirement in 2024, has made him a respected figure in the Connecticut softball community.
Additionally, Ron Vargas, an umpire associated with the Northeast Softball Board, and Bill Garfield, who served as the Milford Recreation Department director, will also be honored during the ceremony. Vargas's role as an official has been vital in ensuring fair play and maintaining the integrity of the sport, while Garfield's contributions in a recreational capacity have helped foster a love for softball among youth in Milford.
The induction dinner will commence with a social hour at 2 p.m., followed by dinner and the formal program starting at 3 p.m. This event not only celebrates the achievements of these individuals but also serves as a gathering for the softball community to come together and recognize the growth of women’s fast-pitch softball in Connecticut.
