Teenager wins Wee-Chi-Tah race during Hotter’N Hell weekend

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Hotter'N Hell Hundred weekend is officially underway, and one young cyclist started it exactly where he wanted, on top.

When that horn sounds, there's not much holding 17-year-old Ethan Lim back.

"His competitive nature kicks in, and he just wants to go, go, go. It's just in him. Once he gets on that bike and that horn goes, it's all competitive from there," his mother, Daniell Lim, said.

Friday morning, that competitive side took him all the way to first place. Ethan finished the Wee-Chi-Tah mountain bike race in roughly 59 minutes, making it his personal best.

"In my mind, I think I can't let anyone catch me. That's what I'm thinking of. Really, I'm competing against myself. I could see my time coming in and I was like okay, I can beat my personal record", Ethan said.

Ethan has been riding since he was four and says the work he's put in has gotten him this far.

"Doing a lot of like of like road biking training then doing mountain bike training back-to-back days after the gym and school, constantly getting laps in no matter what's going on. No excuses," Ethan said.

He's not alone during that training; his mom and dad also compete in Hotter 'N Hell races and say the event is a family affair.

"We get to train all year together. That time together is precious. It's just building memories that he will then look back on and hopefully get to do when he has kids in the future. Then hopefully we'll get to ride with our grandkids one day. It's just super special", Daniell said.

"It just makes the experience a lot better. It makes it more about having fun and just because not everything's about competing sometimes. You know, it's nice to see my family out here getting together for stuff like this," Ethan said.

One race down, more miles to go, and for the Lim family, another Hotter 'N Hell memory in the books.
