‘This is a promise’: Enes Kanter reacts to Megan Rapinoe after she calls him out

Following Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham’s high-profile remarks in an ESPN profile, where she said she wanted to “protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men,” a media firestorm ensued.

Things came to a head when former NBA player Enes Kanter, “declared” for the 2027 WNBA Draft, showed up to a Chicago Sky game wearing a “woman” shirt. During the game, Kanter and Sky guard and social justice activist Natasha Cloud got into a verbal spat, and arena security and the Sky staff had to keep the two separated.

Kanter was ultimately kicked out of the arena, but had already gotten the attention he was looking for. He and other grifters attempting to use the WNBA to advance their personal agendas were called out by USWNT legend and social justice activist Megan Rapinoe.

“The people who were trying to protect women, first of all, from who? Guys? From who? It’s yourself,” Rapinoe said.

The former NBA player is now responding to Rapinoe publicly.

“So, Megan Rapinoe, I’m speaking directly to you. You know, after your washed-up career, you’ve been seeking attention, and I will give you that attention because I’m a nice guy,” he said.

“I grew up playing soccer, right? And you are one of those female athletes that advocated male playing in women’s sports. And so here I am, I am offering you $5 million to any charity you want. If you beat me one-on-one in soccer, I promise you any charity you want, I will be donating $5 million. And this is a promise. I’m gonna name the place, I’m gonna name the time, so you better show up. You were seeking attention, and here it is.”

Hopefully, Rapinoe doesn’t respond to Kanter at all. Former NFL star Ryan Clark put it best when he asked how to start amplifying the voices of  WNBA players rather than those seeking attention for themselves, which Kanter ironically accused Rapinoe of.

“How do we amplify their voices and stop having conversations about ghosts at the moment? Because there are people seeking attention because they no longer have it.”
