Angel Reese had a forgettable game on Friday night against the Portland Fire. The Atlanta Dream lost 101-83 and fell to No. 5 in the standings. Reese had an off night offensively, managing only 16 points on a measly 5-for-14 shooting split.
Her struggles were summed up by an air-balled layup in the second quarter. A page called House of Lowlights shared a clip on X showing Reese cleaning up a missed layup from Rhyne Howard.
She had a clean look at the rim, but missed the first attempt, which hit the backboard. Reese grabbed a second offensive rebound and misjudged the shot completely, leading to the airball.
Fans were quick to criticize the three-time All-Star:
“This is why we find those rebound records so unimpressive.”

Teresa Weatherspoon hails Angel Reese for “trusting her work”Former Chicago Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon, who led Angel Reese in her rookie year, acknowledged the star forward’s improvement in her third season. Appearing on Friday’s NBA TV segment, Weatherspoon dissected the difference between Reese’s game in 2025 and this season.
Reese has been more active on offense, taking more attempts from the field, the 3-point line, and the free-throw line. Reacting to Reese’s 3-point attempts surging by 50.0%, Weatherspoon said:
“The 3-point attempts, she’s shooting it at a half. This is the level of confidence that you see in her because now she’s shooting, she’s trusting her work … that sends your game to another level.”
Reese’s career averages have improved across the board in 2026. She’s averaging 16.1 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals, shooting 43.5% from the field.
The Dream have relied on her as an offensive hub. While Reese has struggled from the field, she’s done a solid job getting to the line, which keeps her impactful. She’s taking a career-high 6.1 free throw attempts and converting a respectable 73.8%.
