Three Ohio State players on Alexander Freshman of the Year watch list

We're almost there. Not only have we nearly made it to the start of the college football season, but also reached the end of the college football awards preseason watch lists. On Thursday, two more were unveiled, with one of them being the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year preseason watch list.

Ohio State seems to be well-represented on almost all of these preseason honors, and that was definitely the case here as well, with three OSU freshmen appearing among the names. Wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., linebacker Cincere Johnson, and cornerback Jay Timmons were three of the 37 names announced by the Maxwell Football Club.

Big things are expected from all three, and it's very likely the trio is all part of the meaningful rotation this fall. It's the second watch list for the five-star Henry. He also appeared on the Polynesian Player of the Year preseason watch list. It's the first preseason watch list for the duo of Johnson and Timmons, but both were highly touted coming out of high school.

The Alexander Freshman of the Year Award has been around since 2018 and goes (of course) to the best college football freshman annually. Ohio State does have a history with the award and a recent one at that. Quarterback Julian Sayin was honored with the award last season. Ohio State is one of three teams with three players on the watch list, joining Alabama and Texas.

The Alexander Freshman of the Year semifinalists will be announced on November 4, with the finalists being named on December 2. The winner of the award will be announced on December 28.
