Tony Romo has received three new citations stemming from his arrest in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
According to online court records, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS Sports analyst was cited for first-offense operating while intoxicated, unsafe passing on the right side and possessing open intoxicants in his vehicle. Romo had already received a citation on July 27 for refusing to take an intoxication test after his arrest.
Romo is reportedly due in court for all four citations on Sept. 21.
His camp also released a new statement to the Journal-Sentinel:
"Tony accepts full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved. We are working with local authorities to bring this matter to a close and we are communicating with CBS about next steps."
Romo was arrested on July 23 after being pulled over on a Milwaukee highway and performing poorly on a field sobriety test, according to police.
In addition to legal repercussions, Romo was soon placed on indefinite leave by CBS Sports. His future with the network remains uncertain, with company president David Berson declining to provide a timetable for a final decision while speaking with reporters earlier this month.
Romo was once the darling of NFL media and CBS paid him like it with a record-shattering 10-year, $180 million contract in 2020. His luster had worn off considerably even before the arrest, with his meandering and casual commentary style wearing thin for many fans.
So it might not be a surprise if CBS uses the arrest to get out of that contract and cut Romo loose. The Athletic noted his contract contains a morals clause that could allow CBS to void the deal if he embarrasses the company.
In the meantime, CBS is set to open the season with J.J. Watt working opposite Jim Nantz in its No. 1 booth.
