One of Oklahoma's biggest offseason additions may not get to play for the Sooners this season. B.J. Edwards' eligibility is in jeopardy after the NCAA won a stay in the case in the Tennessee Court of Appeals.
According to a story from Brody Lusk of Sooners Illustrated, "the Tennessee Court of Appeals granted the NCAA's request to stay the temporary injunction that had provided Edwards and 18 other players with a fifth season of eligibility."
Edwards was granted his eligibility at the end of July as part of the "5 in 5" injunction that granted members of the 2022 recruiting class a fifth year of eligibility. He committed to the Sooners on August 13.
Edwards was expected to play significant minutes in the Sooners' backcourt after committing to Oklahoma on August 13. He averaged 12.7 points, 4.9 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game for the SMU Mustangs in 2025-2026.
Oklahoma still has Xzayvier Brown and transfer guard Pop Isaacs ready to lead the way at guard, but Edwards would provide a huge boost to the Sooners' rotation.
