Lone Star High School from Frisco, Texas, continued its strong start to the season, improving to 2-0 after a decisive 48-24 victory over Simon Gratz from Philadelphia. The game, held on Thursday night, highlighted the impressive performance of junior quarterback Trey Wright, who is committed to the University of Southern California (USC).
Wright, a three-star recruit standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing 175 pounds, was instrumental in the Rangers' success, scoring a remarkable six touchdowns during the game. He demonstrated his versatility by throwing three touchdown passes and rushing for three more. His chemistry with senior wide receiver Zach Forbish was particularly noteworthy, as the duo connected for all three of Wright's touchdown passes, each exceeding 30 yards.
The scoring began with a 10-yard rushing touchdown from Wright, setting the tone for the game. Shortly after, he found Forbish for a touchdown pass, marking the start of a dominant offensive display. Their second connection came at the end of the first quarter, a 65-yard strike that pushed the score to 21-0. Although Simon Gratz managed to narrow the gap by halftime, Lone Star's offense proved too powerful as the game progressed.
In their season opener, Wright had already showcased his talent, amassing 327 total yards in a 41-26 win against Royse City. He completed nine passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns while also contributing significantly on the ground with 149 rushing yards and another touchdown on just nine carries. This strong start to the season follows a breakout sophomore year where he led the Rangers to a Class 5A-I state title game, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 38 touchdowns.
According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, which aggregates evaluations from various recruiting services, Wright is currently ranked as the No. 426 overall prospect and the No. 29 quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class. He is also recognized as the No. 54 junior in Texas, reflecting his growing reputation in high school football.
With their record now at 2-0, Lone Star is set to face a series of challenging opponents in the upcoming weeks. The Rangers will travel to Cedar Hill next Friday, a team that recently lost its top recruit, Jalen Brewster, to Buford, Georgia. Following that matchup, Lone Star will take on Melissa, which is currently ranked as the No. 20 team in Texas, promising to be another test for the Rangers as they aim to build on their early-season momentum.
