President Donald Trump is once again making the case for former Yankees star Roger Clemens to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
In a Truth Social post, Trump praised the seven-time Cy Young Award winner as one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history and criticized the National Baseball Hall of Fame voters who have declined to elect him.
“How about Roger Clemens not being in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York, all because a bunch of jealous people with far less Talent, voted that he shouldn’t be there,” Trump wrote in a Truth post.
Trump pointed to Clemens’ career statistics, including his 354 victories and 4,672 strikeouts, which ranks third all-time. Clemens also won two World Series championships with the Yankees in 1999 and 2000.
The president also defended Clemens against allegations that he used performance-enhancing drugs.
“He was also not convicted, or admitted, to taking Drugs,” Trump wrote.
Clemens has consistently denied using performance-enhancing drugs. His name appeared in the Mitchell Report, which alleged that he had obtained performance-enhancing substances.
He was later acquitted in 2012 of charges that he lied to Congress about his alleged steroid use.
Clemens received 65.2% of the vote from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America in his final year on the writers’ ballot, short of the 75% required for election.
Trump also brought up Pete Rose, who was permanently ineligible for Hall of Fame consideration because of his gambling on baseball. Trump said the Baseball Commissioner had told him Rose would eventually be approved, but waited until after Rose’s death.
“No wonder Baseball is in trouble!” Trump concluded.
