In a recent episode of the Numbers on the Board podcast, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey opened up about his efforts to recruit LeBron James to the team after the superstar departed from the Los Angeles Lakers. James, who signed a two-year contract worth $8 million at the veteran minimum, is expected to significantly enhance the 76ers' chances in the upcoming NBA season.

Maxey's relationship with LeBron has been longstanding, and he utilized this connection to approach the four-time NBA champion about a potential move to Philadelphia. This recruitment effort was not a spontaneous decision; Maxey revealed that he had been trying to convince James to join the 76ers for several years. Although previous attempts did not bear fruit, the latest opportunity arose as James explored his options after leaving the Lakers.

During the podcast, Maxey recounted how he reached out to LeBron, saying, "Did I call? For sure. Like, I didn’t know at first if it was possible or not." He humorously noted that he initially contacted LeBron as a joke, suggesting that he was always welcome in Philadelphia. However, with the encouragement of James’ agent, Rich Paul, Maxey took a more serious approach this time.

"So I hit him and was like, 'Yo, you know, like pull up, like I think we got a good chance, I feel like you can help us. You arguably the greatest of all-time, so it’s like, why wouldn’t we want you on our team?'" Maxey explained. This direct communication led to several conversations between the two, where Maxey passionately pitched the idea of James joining the 76ers.

Maxey was not alone in his efforts; Philadelphia's general manager, Mike Gansey, and Bob Myers, the President of Sports for the 76ers' ownership group, also reached out to LeBron. The organization made a concerted effort to secure the superstar, believing that his presence would be the final piece needed to elevate their roster into championship contention.

With LeBron James now on the Philadelphia 76ers, the team is poised to be a formidable contender in the Eastern Conference. The addition of such a high-caliber player not only boosts the team's talent but also raises expectations among fans and analysts alike. The 76ers are now viewed as serious threats in their pursuit of the NBA championship, with James expected to play a pivotal role in their success.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on the 76ers to see how this new lineup, featuring a blend of talent and experience, will perform. The combination of Maxey's youthful energy and LeBron's veteran leadership could prove to be a winning formula for Philadelphia.
