USC football has to deal with the new reality of long-distance travel in the geographically expanded Big Ten. However, the Trojans have been taken care of well by their new conference. This is especially true in the month of November. If you look at USC's first few Big Ten schedules, the Men of Troy have not had to do a lot of traveling in November. That is also the case this season.
If you look at USC's schedule, one detail which emerges is that after October 24, the Trojans play only one game outside of their Southern California back yard. USC visits Wisconsin on October 24. Then the Trojans come home to Los Angeles to play Ohio State on October 31. Then comes an off week on Saturday, November 7. Then the Trojans make their one late-season road trip to Indiana on November 14. After that, USC flies home to host Maryland. Then the Trojans make the short bus ride to Pasadena to face UCLA in the regular-season finale.
Just one true road trip in the final five weeks of the season. It's another month of November in which USC players, after doing a lot of heavy lifting through October 10 at Penn State, will be able to rest and recover and sleep almost exclusively in their own beds. The first half of the season will be a heavy lift, with games on seven straight weekends, but once the Trojans get to their October 17 off week, they will get a lot more rest and many more chances to rejuvenate themselves heading into the stretch run of the season.
