In a remarkable start to the season, the Missouri Valley Football Conference recognized standout performances from the University of South Dakota (USD) and South Dakota State University (SDSU) as they claimed four of the five player of the week honors following the opening games.
USD's quarterback, Austyn Modrzewski, made headlines with a historic debut that earned him both the offensive player of the week and newcomer of the week titles. The freshman from Colorado showcased his skills by completing 16 of 20 passes, amassing a staggering 304 yards and tying a school record with six touchdown passes. Additionally, he demonstrated his versatility by rushing for 81 yards, which included a spectacular 68-yard touchdown run. His outstanding performance contributed significantly to USD's decisive 59-20 victory over Central Connecticut State in Vermillion on Saturday.
