Virginia High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams – Aug. 30

High school football is officially back in Virginia. Teams from across The Old Dominion kicked off the 2026 season throughout the weekend. Some interesting results ensued, producing a shake-up in the rankings.

This is just the beginning of the journey, as everyone is looking to end the 2026 season with a state championship. Below are the top 25 Virginia high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Aug. 30.

The St. James Academy started the 2026 season with a massive showdown against Lehi (UT). The Strivers absolutely rolled, coming away with a 66-0 victory. Already ranked No. 1 in the state of Virginia, there’s no reason to move them off the top spot.

Varina provided another blowout, this time against an in-state opponent. William Fleming (VA) was on the wrong end of a 54-0 scoreline. The Blue Devils are set to match up with the state’s No. 4-ranked team on Friday.

The season has not yet begun for Oscar Smith. And even so, they have moved up one spot in the rankings to No. 3. Oscar Smith has a ranked matchup coming to begin the 2026 campaign against Virginia’s No. 24 team.

Here is the opponent Varina is waiting for. Maury, on the other hand, is looking to avoid an 0-2 start to the season. A one-point loss to Mallard Creek (NC) got things off on the wrong foot. Thankfully, a quick bounceback situation pops up.

No better feeling than a 1-0 record through one week. Stone Bridge walked away from Friday’s game vs. Madison (VA) elated, winning by a touchdown. The Bulldogs move into the state’s top-five, hoping to hold down the spot.

Even with a win, Highland Springs moves down to No. 6. The Massey Ratings Predictions expected a blowout on the road vs. Hopewell (VA), and that’s what we got. Highland Springs won 37-5.

Business as usual for Benedictine on Thursday night. The season opened with a home game against Blue Ridge School (VA). The Cadets rolled in impressive fashion, producing a shutout 46-0 performance.

Riverbend serves as another team inside Virginia’s top-10 to come out of Week 1 with a massive margin of victory. The Bears took down Chancellor (VA) 49-0, but did not move in terms of rankings. At least one more week will be spent at No. 8.

In what is a nice run of blowouts, Battlefield might have the most impressive of them all. Friday’s 41-0 win came against North Stafford (VA), who is No. 33 per the Massey Rankings. A fantastic way for the Bobcats to get going in 2026.

Last week, Colonial Forge was on the outside looking in, from a top-10 perspective. They did not get on the field this week but still moved up. Thursday is when the Eagles’ party gets started, facing Patriot (VA).
