Coach David Drais has a large group of young players competing for starting roles. He believes the open competition could allow new playmakers to emerge throughout the roster.

[Reason to Fear]

Weston will be replacing starters at nearly every position. Only three starters return on offense and two on defense.

[The Bottom Line]

This year may be a bit of a reset for Weston, as only five starters return and new players will gain experience. Junior Jack Olsen is moving off receiver to take over at quarterback.

Multiple players are competing for the running back job, including Alex Mandujano and Lucas Schaffer. The receiver competition is open after the team lost its top receivers from last year in CHSCA all-state selection Tyler Umhoefer and all-SWC selection Maddox Parsons.

Meanwhile, the offensive line returns three players with significant experience in Ethan Krichavsky, James Krichavsky and Cooper Rapawy.

Only two starters return on defense, leaving multiple positional battles open there as well.

"Right now, we're focused on getting better every day, competing every day, and figuring out who the players are that are going to set the tempo and tone for this team," Drais said.
