The New York Yankees may need a replacement for Giancarlo Stanton in 2027.
But Yankees fans should be thinking realistically.
Is Shohei Ohtani a real option if the Los Angeles Dodgers are sold? Probably not.
Reports indicate that the two-way superstar's contract includes an opt-out if owner Mark Walter agrees to sell the club.
The Athletic recently reported that a Dodgers sale is unlikely, which means Ohtani is staying put.
"This is an extreme long shot. Mark Walter has agreed to sell the Los Angeles Lakers, and recent reporting has examined whether that development could affect the Dodgers' ownership outlook," Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer wrote Tuesday.
If the Yankees believe Ohtani may become available, they should do everything in their power to make him their full-time DH.

"Still, if there's a one-in-a-million chance of the Yankees having a shot at Ohtani, neither Heaven nor Earth should stand in their way at acquiring the best player baseball has ever known," Rymer added.
Of course, that depends on what happens with Stanton. The 36-year-old recently strained his left calf while rehabbing from calf strains in his other leg. He could miss the remainder of the season.
New York's front office knows that acquiring Ohtani is a long shot. General manager Brian Cashman is probably already looking at other options.
