Yankees announce Sunday afternoon lineup vs. Red Sox

NEW YORK - George Lombard Jr. is not in Sunday's Yankees lineup, but the hope is that he's just day-to-day with right knee inflammation.

The rookie shortstop exited Saturday's second game of a doubleheader after three innings, having twisted awkwardly on a check swing in his first at-bat.

An MRI taken late Saturday showed no structural damage. Lombard wasn't sure if he'd be an available player for the afternoon series finale against Boston.

Here is the Yankees' lineup Sunday:

Beyond the Yankees' late second game breaking Saturday - scoring five runs on seven hits in their 9-2 win against Boston - was Max Fried's short but promising performance.

"Definitely a little sharper earlier than late,'' Fried said of his 3.2 innings (one run allowed), limited to 63 pitches in his first start since Aug. 13, due to elbow soreness.

"To be able to get through, feel really good and come out healthy, that's all I can ask for,'' said Fried, as the Yanks earned a day-night doubleheader split.

On Sunday afternoon, it's Will Warren (8-6, 4.39) vs. the Red Sox's latest lefty, Ranger Suarez (5-3, 3.35) with the season series on the line.

Of note, Luis Garcia Jr. (3-for-4, RBI in Saturday's nightcap) has recorded at least three hits in three of his last five games, batting .429 with a 1.274 OPS over his last 10 games, since Aug. 19.
