PARIS – Youssef Zalal, a prominent figure in mixed martial arts, has decided to part ways with his longtime training facility, Factory X. This decision comes on the heels of a challenging period in his career, including a recent defeat that halted his impressive eight-fight winning streak.

Zalal, who holds a professional record of 18 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw (8-4-1 in the UFC), faced Aljamain Sterling in the main event of UFC Fight Night 274 in April, where he suffered a setback that ended his run of victories. Despite the loss, Zalal emphasized that it was not the sole reason for his departure from Factory X. He believes that a change in training environment is essential for his continued growth as a fighter.

In a statement to MMA Junkie, Zalal shared, "I had a few changes happen, so it’s a lot crazier on my side. I’m still trying to figure it out 100 percent. I’m definitely no longer fighting out of Factory X." He expressed gratitude towards Marc Montoya, the head coach at Factory X, describing him as a father figure and mentor throughout his professional journey. Although Montoya will remain a supportive presence, Zalal is seeking new challenges and training opportunities.

As he embarks on this new chapter, Zalal has begun training with renowned coach Trevor Wittman, who is well-respected in the MMA community for his work with top fighters. Additionally, he has been training alongside UFC lightweight Fares Ziam, indicating a shift towards a more dynamic training environment. Zalal is currently evaluating this new setup as he aims to refine his skills further.

Reflecting on his recent fight against Sterling, Zalal acknowledged the importance of preparation and training in achieving success in the octagon. He noted, "The biggest thing, I think without the right preparation, without everything, I still get to do what I’ve got to do, and it gives me a lot of confidence. I don’t make excuses. I don’t make nothing." He recognized that the timing of the fight, coupled with the challenges posed by training during Ramadan, impacted his performance, particularly in the later rounds.

Zalal's insights reveal a deep understanding of the evolving nature of MMA and the necessity for fighters to adapt continuously. He expressed a desire for more specialized training and attention to specific aspects of his game, such as striking. This need for focused development, combined with personal reasons, ultimately influenced his decision to leave Factory X.

As Youssef Zalal navigates this transition in his career, his commitment to improvement and growth remains evident. The move to explore training with Trevor Wittman could provide him with the fresh perspective and resources needed to reach the next level in his fighting career. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this change impacts his future performances in the UFC.
