Yuzvendra Chahal's Stunning Delivery Dismisses Ben Stokes in County Championship

In a captivating display of skill during the County Championship, Yuzvendra Chahal delivered a remarkable ball that left England all-rounder Ben Stokes utterly stunned. This moment occurred on Thursday at the County Ground in Northampton, where Chahal was representing Northamptonshire against Durham in Division Two.

During the second day of the match, Chahal's magic unfolded in the 47th over, dismissing Stokes for just 14 runs. At that point, Durham was struggling at 187 for six, and the dismissal quickly became a highlight of the day’s play, showcasing Chahal’s exceptional talent as a leg-spinner.

Chahal's delivery was a masterclass in spin bowling. Coming around the wicket, he tossed the ball up outside off stump, prompting Stokes to attempt a defensive stroke. However, the ball's trajectory was deceptive; it pitched outside off before sharply turning in towards the left-hander. Stokes, unable to adjust his bat in time, left a gap between his bat and pad, allowing the ball to sneak through and crash into the top of the off stump.

Stokes was left momentarily frozen in disbelief as he walked back to the pavilion, while Chahal celebrated with his teammates, marking the wicket as his third of the innings. The Indian spinner concluded his impressive spell with figures of 4/36 from 15.2 overs, helping to bowl Durham out for a total of 205 runs in 56.2 overs.

Durham's innings was highlighted by David Bedingham, who top-scored with a solid 81 runs off 91 balls. Mayank Agarwal contributed a valuable 36 runs, and Alex Lees added 24 before falling victim to Chahal's bowling prowess.

This dismissal serves as a reminder of Stokes' ongoing struggles against Indian spinners in County cricket. In a previous match against Gloucestershire, he had been well set at 45 runs before being dismissed by a delivery from Sai Kishore. Stokes had looked promising in that innings, hitting seven fours and a six in a brisk 43-ball knock before being outwitted.

Chahal’s latest dismissal of Stokes was particularly striking, as the ball turned sharply enough to deceive both the batsman’s judgment and defensive technique. As the County Championship progresses, Chahal’s performance not only highlights his capabilities but also raises questions about Stokes' ability to handle spin, especially from Indian bowlers.
