Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is having fun with the jokes surrounding Colorado's "small" roster as the team prepares to open the season Thursday night at Georgia Tech. The matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT in Atlanta.
After the 2026 Black & Gold spring game, Colorado became the subject of viral videos showing players who appear smaller than expected for a major college football program. He addressed the issue during the Coaches Show with play-by-play voice Mark Johnson.
"That is funny…I tell you this. I don't think their corners press; I think they play off. So it's gonna be fun…it's gonna be phenomenal," Sanders said.
Misleading VideosThe clips showed mostly quarterbacks, wide receivers and defensive backs, with camera angles, Guardian Caps and smaller pads adding to the unusual look.
Colorado's roster does include 11 players listed at 5-foot-9 or shorter, the most in the Big 12. Several skill players weigh between 140 and 155 pounds, which adds fuel to the smaller-team conversation surrounding the Buffaloes.
Sanders, however, has continued to shake off the illusion that the team's size means much. Colorado's social media team also joined in with videos featuring larger linemen joking that the Buffaloes are "the smallest team in America."

Sanders' film assessment of Georgia Tech's cornerbacks definitely puts attention on Colorado's passing game. If the Yellow Jackets give receivers room to work, redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Lewis could have opportunities to deliver quick throws and attack the open space.
Danny Scudero Jr. and Kam Perry have drawn praise throughout fall camp for their route running and separation. Hykeem Williams brings a 6-foot-2, 220-pound presence near the sideline and in the red zone.
Quentin Gibson, one of the focal points in the misleading videos, adds another threat after the catch. Colorado and Georgia Tech will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. MT.
