Jamie Carragher was in no doubt that Arsenal would find a way to beat Aston Villa when the two clubs met in the Premier League last night, despite the Villans putting up a brave fight.
At the Emirates, the Gunners are a team everyone expects to win their matches, but when they play away from home at a ground such as Villa Park, victory is never automatic. Villa have been one of Arsenal’s toughest opponents in recent times, and the Gunners had lost two of their previous three visits to the stadium before this match.
However, Arsenal still managed to secure the victory at a very difficult ground and against a team with a point to prove after losing several of their most important players. The result demonstrated the Gunners’ ability to find a way to win even when the match is challenging.
Villa will eventually visit the Emirates hoping to collect all three points from Arsenal, but for now, they must accept that the Gunners were the better team. Carragher believes Arsenal are not simply the best side in England, but potentially the best team in world football.
Carragher praises ArsenalAccording to BBC Live, the former Liverpool player believes Villa’s best approach was to remain in the contest for as long as possible against Arsenal.
He said:
“The only thing Villa could’ve done was stay in the game for as long as possible, you are looking at arguably the best team in world football in Arsenal.
“It wasn’t a classic.”
Carragher’s assessment highlights the difficulty Villa faced throughout the match. Arsenal did not need to produce a spectacular performance to secure the result, instead demonstrating patience and control against determined opposition.

Gunners prove their qualityThe victory was particularly significant given Arsenal’s previous struggles at Villa Park. Losing two of their previous three visits had shown how difficult the fixture could be, but Arteta’s side found a way to overcome that challenge.
Villa’s brave performance made the contest competitive, but Arsenal’s quality ultimately proved decisive. Their ability to win a difficult away match could become important as they continue their campaign.
For Carragher, the result provided another indication of Arsenal’s quality. While the match may not have been a classic, the Gunners achieved what mattered most, securing the victory and showing why they remain one of the teams to beat.
