NBA friendships are a funny thing. Star players don't only hang out with other star players. They often become close with bench warmers who have a completely different role on the team. At least, that seems to be the case with former Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown and former Celtics bench warmer Tacko Fall.
The unlikely duo played together for two years in Boston during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Fall entered just 26 games with the Celtics and still managed to emerge as a fan favorite thanks to his incredible 7-foot-6 stature and kind nature. Around that same time, Brown helped lead the C's on the court while befriending Fall off the court. Despite the fact that they didn't share the floor much, they made such a lasting bond that Brown is the godfather to Fall's daughter. The two were even seen hanging out in Morocco in late June.

Shortly after Brown and Fall spent time in northern Africa, the former was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in a shocking blockbuster deal. This move ended up creating a Celtics reunion, as the latter signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Sixers and plans to participate in training camp at the end of September.
Fall, who hasn't played in an NBA game since 2022, will look to earn a more permanent role with the Sixers organization. Brown was happy to see his friend land a camp deal with his current squad and took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to celebrate:
— Jaylen Brown (@FCHWPO) September 1, 2026Whether or not one of the tallest players in NBA history can stay in the Association remains to be seen. However, he's getting a shot, and perhaps Brown played a role in that.
The rival 76ers now roster three former Celtics, including Brown, Fall, and shooting guard Anfernee Simons. If they all stick around, the first time they'll see the Green Team during the 2026-27 campaign would be in a preseason matchup that takes place on Saturday, October 10 in Boston.
