3 positions Jaguars could target on waiver wire post-roster cutdown day

Roster cutdown day is Sunday for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the rest of the NFL. The next day, teams will be able to submit waiver claims on recently released players.

Admittedly, given the construction of the Jaguars roster, there aren't many obvious positions where an addition could be made. So realistically, we may not see Jacksonville dabble on the waiver wire.

That said, GM James Gladstone has shown us repeatedly that he is always looking to make roster tweaks as he sees fit. Here are three positions that could potentially use a boost from the post-cutdown waiver wire.

We know who the top four cornerbacks are, and Jabbar Muhammad is likely to be the fifth on the depth chart. The Jaguars could go into the season with only five cornerbacks rostered, but that would leave them a bit thin at this position. Many teams will carry six cornerbacks on the 53-man.

As of now, Christian Braswell may be the front-runner for that sixth spot, but he's had an up-and-down training camp, which could lead to the Jaguars looking elsewhere.

Tight end is in a similar situation as cornerback. Quintin Morris and Hunter Long are competing for the final potential roster spot, but neither has stood out consistently. Keeping three tight ends is possible, but again, that would leave the Jaguars shorthanded. To bolster the depth of this unit behind Brenton Strange, Nate Boerkircher, and Tanner Koziol, perhaps Gladstone looks to make a late addition.

This unit has gotten healthier as of late, which means a waiver wire addition is less likely. That said, there is no such thing as too much offensive line depth. Wyatt Milum was unable to capitalize on the opportunities that came his way this summer.

Daniel Faalele is still new to the system and carving out a role, while Chuma Edoga may not be considered a roster lock -- all reasons that bolstering the depth up front could be a priority for Gladstone.
