Since being founded in 1946, the Boston Celtics have won 18 championships and been home to some of the greatest players in NBA history.
When the NBA announced the 75th Anniversary Team in 2021, 20 of the 75 players had played for the Celtics at some point in their careers — the most of any franchise.
With so many championships and so many legends, it should come as no surprise that the Celtics are home to some rather incredible records.
Here are five in particular that will probably never be broken.

5 Celtics records that will probably never be broken1. Bill Russell's 11 championshipsLet's start with the obvious one.
During his time with the Celtics, Russell won an NBA-record 11 championships. The most championships won by a player who wasn't one of Russell's teammates is seven, a mark held by Robert Horry.
Arguably the greatest player of all time, Michael Jordan won six championships in his career. LeBron James and Stephen Curry each have four.
This isn't just an unbreakable Celtics record. This is an NBA record that will never be broken.
2. Bill Russell's rebounds totalOver his 13-year career, Russell pulled down 21,620 rebounds.
If that sounds like a lot, it is. Not only is that the most in Celtics history, but it's the second-most in NBA history. Only Wilt Chamberlain grabbed more rebounds than Russell.
Russell averaged 22.5 rebounds per game. Neemias Queta grabbed 20 rebounds in a game in 2026, the first time a Celtics player had reached that mark since Jared Sullinger in 2015.
That should give you an idea of how absurd Russell's rebounding numbers are.
3. Most assists in a gameIn 1959, Bob Cousy set a franchise record by registering 28 assists. It's tied for the third-most assists ever in an NBA game, behind only the Nets' Kevin Porter (29) and the Magic's Scott Skiles (30).
Rajon Rondo got close to Cousy's franchise record a couple of times, but the most assists he ever recorded in a Celtics uniform was 25.
I'm not as confident that this record will never be broken, but recent history suggests it'll stand the test of time.
4. 40-1 home recordNo team has ever gone undefeated on their home court during the regular season, but a couple have come within one game.
In 1985-86, the Celtics went 40-1 at home, their only loss coming to a Portland Trail Blazers team that finished the season below .500. They carried that dominance into the playoffs, winning all 10 home games en route to the championship.
San Antonio tied Boston's record by going 40-1 at home in 2015-16.
The Spurs and Celtics remain the only teams in NBA history to win 40 regular-season games on their home court. Especially with the way the game is played today, it's hard to imagine a team going 41-0 at home.
5. 32-point comebackThe most recent record on this list came in 2021, when the Celtics set a franchise record with a 32-point comeback in an overtime win over the San Antonio Spurs.
Jayson Tatum was the star of the night. He tied Larry Bird's franchise record with 60 points, including 31 in the fourth quarter and overtime.
