IOWA CITY — Five-star point guard Cayden Daughtry listed Iowa men's basketball in his top 14 schools.
Daughtry's final 14, which he announced on Aug. 26, are: Iowa, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), UConn, Florida, Arkansas, Michigan, Tennessee, USC, Kentucky, Louisville, Providence, Villanova and Vanderbilt.
The 6-foot point guard ranks 10th nationally in the 2027 high school recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite. The Calvary Christian Academy (Florida) senior is scheduled to take an official visit to Iowa in September.
Daughtry put on a string of spectacular performances to lead his Florida Rebels to a 17U Peach Jam title this year. In eight games, Daughtry averaged 32.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 steals. He was an incredibly efficient scorer, shooting 58.6% from the field, 48.8% from deep and 91.4% from the free throw line.
Adam Finkelstein, Director of Basketball Scouting at CBS Sports, wrote the following about Daughtry:
“Daughtry is the most skilled player in high school basketball. He has an incredible mastery of the ball at such a young age. He’s rhythmic and creative with his handle, drills deep shots off the dribble, has a great floater game, and advanced lay-up package. It’s actually in the micro-details where he can differentiate himself - the various pick-up points for his pull-ups, the way he can manipulate the degree of arc on his shots, vary his stride length through the lane, and the cadence of his dribble.
“...The bottom line is that Daughtry was the best grassroots player in the country this year and will very likely be one of college basketball’s very best freshmen a year from now. Exactly what type of pro he could be one day down the road may be more debatable. While there are clear challenges associated with being his size at that level, he may prove to be one of the ever so select few who can be among the exception to those rules.”
