The Detroit Lions have completed the 2026 preseason, and now the hard work of finalizing the Week 1 roster begins.
The Lions have until 6 p.m. today to cut their roster to the 53-man limit.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said after his team's preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts that he planned to rewatched the game that night and meet with general manager Brad Holmes early Sunday, Aug. 30, to begin reducing the roster.
"We met Thursday night and kind of preliminary, like, 'How do you see it? How do I see it?'" Campbell said. "And we just kind of went through it, so we’ve got a pretty good handle, pretty good grasp, minus a few spots we were talking about, that we needed to see [against the Colts]."
Holmes did not travel to Indianapolis for the game, and Campbell said he also plans to meet with his assistants this morning before setting the roster.
Among the Lions' biggest decisions are who to keep as the No. 5 receiver – Tay Martin, Lucky Jackson and Tom Kennedy are the top candidates – and what to do with their surplus of defensive linemen.
