Eldridge Makes History as Giants Split Diamondbacks Doubleheader

The San Francisco Giants have a history maker on their hands as rookie Bryce Eldridge has become the cornerstone of this offense.

Officially, Eldridge is the first Giants rookie to have four hits and four RBIs in the same game since Buster Posey did so back in 2010.

It's been 16 years since the Giants have had a rookie make this much of an impact on the franchise.

Obviously, he isn't going to be able to get them out of their 56-81 record by himself, but he still guided the team to an impressive 7-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, a team that had just beaten them 7-1 a few hours prior.

San Francisco had nine hits as a team, so it's incredible to think that Eldridge had nearly half of those himself. In total, he would drive in over half of the team's runs, an incredible milestone for the 21-year-old.

Clearly, finding a spot in the team's everyday lineup has paid off in a big way. The Virginia native is now hitting .261 on the year with an OPS above .800 for the first time since July 30.

Eldridge saw the ball extremely well in the second game of the doubleheader as he went 4-for-5 with four RBIs. One of his RBIs came with two outs, and three of his hits came with a runner in scoring position.

Knowing the Giants were 6-for-13 with a runner in scoring position, that once again gives Eldridge exactly half of the team's hits in that department.

It's impossible to start comparing him to Posey, but there are certainly signs of this rookie reaching the levels of greatness that the now President of Baseball Operations once did in his prime.

The Giants weren't quite sure how they were going to navigate game two of the doubleheader, especially since they knew Marte, a 23-year-old rookie, would be taking the mound.

After Arizona used a grand slam to crush the Giants in game one, they were held to just two runs on seven hits in the second game.

Marte threw 4.2 innings where he allowed just one earned run on three hits. Jason Foley, who picked up his first save of the year, was the other Giants pitcher to allow a run in this game.

All things considered, the Giants couldn't have asked for a better game two, and it was headlined by a pair of rookies.
