With Kyler Murray being named the starter, the team did not utilize him or any other key players in their second preseason game. Still, the team wanted to see what they had in J.J. McCarthy, and in some moments, they saw the best this past weekend. Now, with the final preseason game on the horizon, it could be a pivotal one for the young quarterback.
ESPN's Kevin Seifert discussed the situation coming out of Week 2, and what is now facing the young Vikings quarterback. While the coaching staff remains steadfast in him but the way he plays in the final preseason game could go a long way in deciding what happens next.
He writes, "O'Connell said last week that McCarthy was the Vikings' No. 2 quarterback behind Kyler Murray and ahead of Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer. But O'Connell also said he wanted the position to be competitive, setting up an important final week of training camp ahead of Friday's preseason game at the Denver Broncos."
Wentz could make things interesting in the final preseason game, especially if McCarthy is not 100%. At some point something has to give for the franchise as it relates to their former top pick, its just a matter of when.
