Aug. 29—HATTON — It only took Hatton three quarters to beat one of their biggest county rivals on Friday night.
The Hornets beat Lawrence County 48-18 in their first regular season matchup since 2013.
By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, Hatton was up by 32, and the starters were being taken off the field.
"To beat Lawrence County like this, is a huge momentum builder," Hatton quarterback Cade Parham said. "I expected to play the whole game."
For the second week in a row, Hatton generated over 500 yards of offense.
Last week, Parham had almost 200 yards passing and the Hatton running room had over 250 rushing yards in a 27-20 win over Brooks.
This time, Parham went 12-of-16 for four passing touchdowns and 250 passing yards.
Hatton's running room of Nyzae Gamble and Savarius Evans combined for another 250 plus rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Hatton head coach and former Alabama receiver Nikita Stover said Parham reminded him of his old quarterback.
"He's like a quarterback I played with at Alabama, Greg McElroy," Stover said. "He can make the throws and he can manage a game."
But it wasn't just the offense, Hatton's defense held Lawrence County to just two scores all night and held Red Devil staple running back Tavian Jones to less than 125 yards and no scores.
"When we made that first stop. I saw it in our eyes," Stover said. "You could just tell how bad they wanted it."
Lawrence County opened scoring with a 14-yard touchdown rush from quarterback Cam King.
After that, it was a Hatton avalanche.
Parham connected with receiver A'Ryine Cooper on a 12-yard touchdown pass at the end of the first. Then he hit tight end Daniel Aycock for a 26-yard touchdown. Evans cashed in a 5-yard touchdown run for the Hornets to lead 22-8 at the break.
After halftime, Parham scored on their first drive out, with a 78-yard touchdown pass to Quendarius Bolding. He scored his fourth touchdown on the night with a 47-yard touchdown pass to receiver Za'Bralen Watkins.
Lawrence County got a safety sack to cut the lead down to 35-10. But Bolding scored on a 70-yard touchdown rush. Then Gamble added on his own 70-yard touchdown rush at the start of the fourth.
King capped off scoring with a 1-yard touchdown rush for the Red Devils.
Next week, Hatton will open up region play versus Fayette County. Lawrence County will do the same versus Deshler at home.
"I feel very confident, no matter who we play, that they're going to get the ball regardless of where I put it," Parham said. "I have ball players out here."
