Mason Taylor's latest highlight catch sparks buzz among Jets fans

It's pretty common knowledge around these parts. New York Jets fans understand better than most that a training camp highlight doesn't guarantee regular-season success.

Still, it's hard not to get excited when a player flashes the type of athleticism that made him a coveted draft pick in the first place. Second-year tight end Mason Taylor recently did exactly that.

The son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, generated plenty of attention after a clip surfaced showing him elevating over veteran safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to make an impressive catch. The play lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough to get Jets fans talking.

The Jets selected Taylor after a productive career with the LSU Tigers, believing he could develop into an important part of their offense. As a rookie, he hauled in 44 receptions for 369 yards and a touchdown while showing flashes of the versatility that made him such an intriguing prospect.

One highlight in August doesn't guarantee anything once the regular season begins. At the same time, plays like this help explain why the organization remains excited about Taylor's future.

Athletic tight ends who can make contested catches downfield can create problems for opposing defenses, and that's exactly the type of skill set the Jets hope Taylor continues to develop. No, a 12-second clip won't win games. If Taylor starts making catches like this on Sundays, however, Jets fans may have plenty to celebrate.

Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 NFL season.
