New York Giants report card: How we graded Big Blue in Jets win

The New York Giants finished out the 2026 preseason with a resounding 23-6 victory over their MetLife Stadium co-tenants, the New York Jets, on Friday night.

The bottom line: The Giants' reserves proved to be better than the Jets' backups. Much better. With the final roster cutdown deadline approaching fast, teams will be making their decisions in almost rapid-fire fashion.

Here is how we graded the Giants in Friday night's "Snoopy Bowl."

The Giants began the game with Jameis Winston under center. He led the Giants on three drives. The first one ended with an interception on a deflected pass. The second was cut short by a Braxton Berrios fumble inside the five-yard-line. The third resulted in a six-yard touchdown run by Tyrone Tracy Jr.

Brandon Allen was efficient in relief, hitting eight of 12 passes for 78 yards. Newcomer Jake Haener looked solid in the second half, completing six of seven passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Running back Najee Harris saw his first action in a Giants' uniform, averaging 3.5 yards on 11 attempts. Tracy rushed four times for 37 yards and a score. Rookie Damon Bankston led the team with 62 yards on 11 carries.

Odell Beckham Jr had a nice night, grabbing three passes for 53 yards and just missed on a deep ball from Winston. Xavier Gipson helped his cause with a 37-yard touchdown catch on a pass from Haener.

Rookie tackle J.C. Davis, who played every snap in last week's win in Miami, played in 96 percent of the snaps this week. The Giants are really giving him some solid game experience this summer.

Grade: B+

The Giants sat all of their starting linebackers and two of their three starting defensive linemen. It didn't matter. Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson has this entire group humming regardless of personnel. In three preseason games, they allowed just 22 points and held opponents to a 26 percent conversion rate on third downs.

In this game, they held the Jets to 139 total yards. The Jets crossed the 50 into Giants' territory just twice after their first possession and failed to score in their final nine possessions.

Micah McFadden is rounding back into game shape, leading the team with six total tackles. Linebacker Trace Ford made his case for a roster spot with five stops, three for a loss, with two QB hits, a sack, and two passes defensed.

Grade: A+

Dominic Zvada pulled away in the kicker competition by hitting all three of his field goal tries, with a long of 53. He added two extra points. Jordan Stout had two punts, one going for 81 yards. He has been outstanding. What a nice pickup by the Giants. Xavier Gipson had a 39-yard kickoff return.

Grade: A+

It means everything in this business. The staff has worked the team hard this offseason, and they are looking more prepared to play at the start of a season than they have in over a decade. John Harbaugh has hit the ground running here. All the players have completely bought in, and they appear to be headed in the right direction.
