A delegation of Pakistan's promising junior squash players, accompanied by a senior coach, has embarked on a journey to Egypt to compete in the Egyptian Junior Open 2026 and participate in a comprehensive three-week training program. This initiative aims to revitalize Pakistan's standing in a sport it once dominated.

The group includes senior squash coach Tahir Iqbal Khan, along with junior players Danish Sikander and Ubaidullah from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Directorate General of Sports, as well as Punjab's Sohail Adnan and Muhammad Mustafa. Their trip is designed not only for competition but also for intensive training under the guidance of esteemed Egyptian coach Omar Abdel Aziz.

Egypt has emerged as a powerhouse in the world of squash over the last two decades, producing numerous world champions through a combination of a competitive domestic circuit and structured youth development programs. Pakistani officials are hopeful that this training camp will help bridge the gap between the two nations by exposing their players and coaches to modern training techniques, tactical preparation, and international competition standards.

Tahir Iqbal expressed optimism before the team's departure, stating, "This is an excellent opportunity for our young players and coaching staff to learn from one of the world’s leading squash nations. The experience gained in Egypt will not only improve the technical and tactical abilities of our players but will also help us introduce modern coaching methods back home, contributing to the long-term development of squash, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa."

Historically, Pakistan was the dominant force in squash, boasting legends like Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan. However, in recent years, the country has faced challenges in maintaining its prominence as Egypt has taken the lead in the sport. Officials believe that regular participation in international junior tournaments and overseas training programs is crucial for nurturing the next generation of Pakistani players who can compete at the highest levels.

Khan also acknowledged the support from various organizations, including the Directorate General of Sports, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association, the Markhor Squash Foundation, and the BARD Foundation, which facilitated the tour by handling visa formalities and travel arrangements.

The upcoming three-week program will encompass advanced technical coaching, fitness conditioning, match analysis, and practice sessions with top Egyptian juniors. This exposure is expected to provide the Pakistani contingent with invaluable experience ahead of future regional and global competitions.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Pakistan's grassroots squash structure by investing in junior talent and enhancing the capabilities of local coaches. The players are scheduled to return to Pakistan after completing both the championship and the training camp later this month.
