College football has a clear history with programs that go the extra mile when it comes to uniforms and gear. The TCU Horned Frogs certainly fall into that category entering the 2026 season.
The Big 12 team opens Week 0 with a trip to Dublin, Ireland to face off with Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels. Both teams certainly want to earn a victory to begin the season, but TCU has a clear edge.
That edge has nothing to do with the players out on the field, but TCU’s helmet initiative paying tribute to Ireland. The Horned Frogs already boast an elite helmet with their trademark mascot on the purple background.
However, head coach Sonny Dykes’ group is donning a stunning Irish-inspired helmet with a classy touch on the horned frog. TCU is hopeful that they’ll get some of that well-documented Ireland luck during their Dublin stay.

— TCU Football (@TCUFootball) August 28, 2026Both TCU and North Carolina are paying homage to the special Dublin matchup to kick off the season. The Tar Heels, which has the unique Jordan Brand sponsorship, features an Irish flag-colored “UNC” on the front of their players’ helmets.
Lots of attention is on the field for both teams aiming to have breakout seasons in the ACC and Big 12. However, TCU boasts a huge spotlight with former Harvard quarterback Jaden Craig leading the way.

Meanwhile, the Horned Frogs do have to play the Ireland game without star wideout Jordan Dwyer. Last season, the 2025 TCU transfer finished with over 700 yards and seven receiving touchdowns.
