Teagan Henry, a senior quarterback for Greenon High School, has made headlines this week with a stellar performance that showcases his strategic approach to football. Henry likens playing quarterback to a game of chess, emphasizing the importance of anticipating opponents' moves and understanding that every play is crucial.
In a commanding victory against Northwestern on August 28, Henry demonstrated his prowess on the field by throwing for a remarkable 420 yards, completing 33 of 47 passes and tossing four touchdown passes. Additionally, he contributed to the scoreboard with two rushing touchdowns, leading Greenon to a decisive 43-6 win.
For his outstanding efforts, Henry has been named the Dayton Daily News Athlete of the Week for the period of August 24-30, an honor awarded through reader voting on the Dayton Daily News website. This recognition marks a significant achievement for Henry, who expressed his desire to win the title again, having previously been honored in October 2025.
Reflecting on his recent success, Henry credited his offensive line for their performance, stating, “We dominated up front, I don’t think I got sacked, and our [offensive] line did a great job. Our receivers are just really talented and dominated too.” His ability to perform under pressure and lead his team is a testament to his growth as a player.
As a third-year starting quarterback, Henry has built a solid foundation, having approached 2,000 passing yards last season with an impressive touchdown-to-interception ratio exceeding 3-to-1. After a slow start in the first game of the current season against Shawnee, he rebounded with a record-setting game against Northwestern in Week 2, showcasing his resilience and adaptability.
Henry attributes part of his success to the experience he has gained over the years, particularly in his leadership role on the team. He noted, “Just the calmness now, you know last year having learned everything and repping it more, I’m now able to see the field better, make smarter, quicker decisions and I think that’s all really helped us.” This maturity has allowed him to take charge during critical moments of the game.
His passion for the sport is evident as he aims to inspire future generations of Greenon Knights. Henry recalls his childhood in 2019, when he watched a Greenon team achieve its best record in nearly four decades but miss out on the postseason. He hopes to set a positive example for younger players, encouraging them to strive for greatness and surpass the accomplishments of his team.
“We really wanted to win the OHC South last year,” he said, reflecting on past disappointments. “Felt like we could have, and we didn’t. That’s actually been inspiring and what’s driving us to reach that goal this year.” With Henry at the helm, the Knights are poised for a promising season, aiming to achieve the success that has eluded them in the past.
