‘The Cardinal Countdown: 7 Days Until Kickoff’

Summary: Every position group has a bit of a hierarchy as it relates to notable names. The newspaper clipping guy who steals the headlines, the fan favorite guy who may not be the best, but gives 100% all the time, the up and comer who is positioned to be a star in the future, and then somewhere in the mix of all that is usually one of the better players in the room who just doesn’t quite fit into one of those boxes. For me, McCoy is that guy.  While Richardson grabs the headlines, Rhys is the next man up, and guys like Voth and Hurry likely endear themselves with the fanbase, all McCoy does is go and dominate. Once he got a shot at FSU, he quickly become a popular target, hauling in the second most receptions on the team (27), second most TDs (3), and third most receiving yards (396), while averaging nearly 15 yards a catch.

In the fall his name started to come up a bit more as folks saw what he could do, and then our very own Keith Wynne highlighted him as a breakout candidate in his wide receiver preview last week. The Cards socials are ramping up and a couple weeks back they actually mic’d up McCoy and gave us a peek into practice. This means not only is he worthy of the honor due to his talent, but he’s a bit of a character as well. My favorite part was when Coach Branch called him “Weez” and it took a minute for my brain to connect “Lawayne” with “Lil Wayne”….aka Weezy. So hence force in the CS household, McCoy will be Weezy. He’s already become a favorite for me, and I don’t  think it will take long for him to be a favorite for others as well.
