The Pelicans and Bennedict Mathurin reportedly agreed to a two-year deal

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans have been quiet for the majority of the offseason, but they made a big move on Wednesday.

ESPN Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania reported that the Pelicans and guard Bennedict Mathurin agreed to a two-year, $16 million deal.

Charania also reports that the Pelicans 'aggressively pursued Mathurin for over a year and view him as a significant part of their young core, while the deal also keeps New Orleans below the luxury tax line this season.'

Mathurin was the sixth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

He spent the first four years of his NBA career with the Indiana Pacers and last year with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he averaged around 17 points per game on 43 percent shooting in just 26 games.

Mathurin is expected to provide a boost to a Pelicans offense that was 16th in the NBA last year, averaging just 115 points per game.
